After winning the state title, Mound Time gets derailed at regionals

The Mound Time Senior Babe Ruth team didn’t go as far as it wanted or achieve as much as it hoped.

But the team went a long, long way, won a lot of big, big games and accomplished an awful lot.

Mound Time, coached by Bill Taylor, first stepped up to win the Senior Babe Ruth State Tournament at Tualatin Hills July 14-17. There, the team opened with a 4-3 win over Goldendale, Wash., getting a strong pitching performance from Connor Dunham and Nick Rubeo (who pitched three shutout innings in relief), and a home run and two runs scored from Tanner Scott.

Next, Mound Time roasted East Metro 11-1 in the July 15 tournament semifinals, with Will Taylor going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Jordan Spencer going 2-for-3 with a homer.

And in the final on July 17, Mound Time pulled out a tough 5-4 decision over Snake River Valley behind the pitching of Rudy Corbett and Dante Baldocchi, with Baldocchi picking up the win in relief. Trailing 4-2 going into its final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh, Mound Time, got singles from Scott and Adam Schneider, walks to Jeremy Cronk and Paddy Corcoran, and a two-run double by Brandon Carrow to win the game.

That victory sent the team on to the Senior Babe Ruth Regional Tournament at Clackamas Community College July 20-24. Mound Time opened with a 5-0 win over Snake River Valley on July 20, pushing across four runs in the fifth inning behind singles from Scott, Taylor and Spencer.
