SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Bees beat the Portland Beavers for the ninth time in their last 11 meetings on Wednesday, winning 8-3 at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Portland (39-65) had a 4-for-4 night from Craig Stansbery, who tied Jon Knott for the modern (2001 and later) franchise record in doubles by hitting his 89th.
Radhames Liz (6-6) took the loss, giving up four runs, eight hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.
Salt Lake climbed to 53-51, with six extra-base hits and 12 hits overall. The Bees struck Liz with five consecutive singles to open the third inning, when they scored the first three runs of the game.
Salt Lake added a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh to go up 6-0.
The Beavers and Bees continue their series at 6 p.m. PT Thursday. Cesar Carrillo (4-10, 4.95) is expected to start for the Beavers against Fernando Rodriguez (2-4, 5.65).
