Jafari finishes high school wrestling career

Lake Oswego’s Khashi Jafari will wrestle for Southern Oregon University next year. SOU’s team took second in the nation in NAIA last year.

Lake Oswego wrestler Khashi Jafari suited up for the Lakers one final time at the recent Orway Challenge, featuring some of the top high school wrestlers from Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California and it was somewhat of a bittersweet feeling.

"It was eye-opening just knowing that my high school career was ending. It was good but at the same time it was tough to be wearing the Lakers uniform for the last time and hanging out with my coaches," Jafari said.

Jafari had a strong showing, going 2-1 in three matches against solid competition. He will now get a brief respite before heading down to Ashland where he will be a part of South Oregon University's strong wrestling squad next year.

In his four years at Lake Oswego, the school's wrestling program was in a state of flux with very low turnout and coaching changes.

But Jafari remained the constant as a hard worker and as one of the program's most talented competitors.

When he first joined the team, you could hardly call it that. The Lakers had nine wrestlers on the squad and often had to forfeit half of their matches at dual meets.
