Former Pacer White makes history at UO

Mandy White recently became the first University of Oregon women’s sprinter to become an All-American in the 100 meters. She was also part of the first women’s 4x100 relay team that achieved that feat. White won state titles in the 100 and the 200 meters for Lakeridge during her senior year in 2007.

Mandy White was a record setter during her time at Lakeridge High School.

The sprinter broke state meet records in the 100 and the 200 meters as a high school athlete and won the state title in both of those events in 2007, becoming one of the most decorated track stars in Lakeridge's impressive history.

And now White has moved on to set more records at the University of Oregon.

To say that White's recently completed junior year of college was a breakout season would be an understatement.

While White was quietly setting PRs during her freshman and sophomore seasons for the Ducks even she wasn't fully expecting what she would accomplish this spring.

White made history after qualifying for the NCAA Championships this year.

She finished 10th in the nation with a wind-aided personal best time of 11.42 seconds (legal time of 11.57).

That finish allowed her to become the first ever All-American in the women's 100 meters in Oregon history.

She now holds the second fastest time ever run in the women's 100 meters for the university.

"I never thought something like this would happen. To have the second-fastest time in Oregon and to be an All-American is pretty special," White said.

While the University of Oregon is synonymous with track and field success and accolades, its stars have often been in the distance and field events.

But White is at the forefront of changing that perception as she heads up one of the strongest women's sprinting corps in the school's history.
