SALT LAKE CITY — A throwing error by third baseman Nick Green in the eighth inning cost the Portland Beavers in a 5-4 loss to the Salt Lake Bees Tuesday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Bees third baseman Nick Sutton hit two doubles, along with a grounder to Green, who misfired the throw over first baseman Craig Cooper to put the Bees (52-51) ahead for good.
Former Beaver Paul McAnulty hit a key, two-run single in the fifth for the Bees, who have taken six of the last eight games from the Beavers.
Designated hitter Kyle Phillips drove in two runs, advancing his hitting streak to 12 games for the Beavers.
Bobby Mosebach (1-0) got his first win for Salt Lake, despite giving up two runs on four hits in two innings, while Adam Russell (3-8) sent the Beavers (39-64) to a season-high 25 games below .500.
The teams will meet again at 6 p.m. PT Wednesday.
