Portland State is hiring two assistant football coaches to replace two who recently left to pursue other interests.
Richard Seigler, the former Oregon State linebacker who played four seasons professionally, will be the assistant defensive line coach.
“Richard paid to fly to Portland from his home in Las Vegas to help coach our camps this summer,” first-year PSU coach Nigel Burton said. “The kids responded to him. I’m happy to have a spot for him.”
After four years as a starter at OSU, Seigler, 29, spent three years in the NFL with San Francisco and Pittsburgh and two seasons with Toronto of the Canadian Football League.
Burton said final details were being worked out on the other coach, who will handle running back and recruiting coordinator duties.
“He has been a head coach for a long time, with recruiting connections in California,” Burton said. “Everything he brings to the table is huge.”
The new coaches will replace Casey Clifton (D-line) and Kevin Emberton (running backs/recruiting coordinator).
The Vikings begin training camp Aug. 8 in preparation for their season opener at Arizona State on Sept. 4.

Re: Vikings hire Seigler, another coach
I am glad that Nigel give Richard a chance to better himself, he may make a wonderful coach, he played under
some good ones at OSU, so he must know what it takes.
Richard played on some of Oregon States' very best teams.
