LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Portland Beavers came down to earth at Cashman Field on Monday night.
One day after scoring 21 runs on 32 hits, the Beavers managed just three runs on eight hits – and lost 5-3 to the Las Vegas 51s.
Marc Rzepczynski (5-3) took a shutout into the seventh inning and struck out six Beavers in 6 2/3 innings, helping the 51s split the four-game series.
Las Vegas improved to 49-54, and Portland fell to 39-63 despite Wily Mo Pena's second home run and an HR by Josh Barfield.
Portland failed to score until the seventh inning, and Josh Geer (7-9) was touched up for five runs on eight hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings, while delivering a career-high four wild pitches.
On Tuesday night, the Bevos will open a four-game set at Salt Lake.
