Kyron’s parents: We believe he’s still alive and being held somewhere

Kyron Horman’s parents said Friday that they still believe the missing 7-year-old is alive and that he is being held against his will.

“My theory is that Kyron is still alive and someone is holding him,” said Desiree Young, Kyron’s mother. “We don’t know who or where or how many there are, but that’s what I believe.”

“We don’t where he is and we need to keep looking,” said Kaine Horman, Kyron’s father.

“We don’t have any evidence to show that he’s not alive, which is a big deal,” added Desiree Young.

Both Kaine Horman and Desiree Young met with reporters for about 30 minutes Friday morning at the Tigard Embassy Suites Hotel to talk about their son’s disappearance eight weeks ago. Both said they were confident that the investigation into the boy’s disappearance was progressing on track and that they had a lot of support from the public.

At the same time, they again asked Kyron’s stepmother, Terri Horman, to cooperate with investigators in the search for the boy who vanished June 4 from Skyline School in rural Northwest Multnomah County.

Kaine Horman said he “pleads” with Terri Horman — his estranged wife — “every day to tell me what happened that day.” The pleading has little effect, according to Desiree Young, who said Terri Horman’s reaction has been “surprisingly cold.”

Investigators from the East County Major Crimes Team have spent more than 11,000 hours so far on the case and are looking into about 3,500 tips from the public.

On Tuesday, July 27, the sheriff's office said the reward for information leading to Kyron's whereabouts would be doubled to $50,000. An anonymous donor provided the additional money for the reward.

Kaine Horman said he wanted anyone with information about the boy’s disappearance, even bits of information that might seem unimportant, to come forward and talk with investigators. The search for his son could take investigators outside Oregon as they follow tips in others states, he said.
