ADVERTISEMENTS
For just a couple hours Thursday afternoon, Portland’s Pearl District was a P-I-G pig.
That’s what happens when a bunch of friends get together and throw food around.
The Children’s Healing Art Project of Portland hosted “Gage’s Food Fight and Fight for Food and Battle Against Cancer” Thursday in the Pearl District.
It was a chance to get messy for a good cause. Gage (whose last name was withheld by CHAP organizers), a Portland-area 9-year-old battling cancer, lead the charge. Portlanders flung cooked spaghetti and green Jell-O from 2 to 4 p.m. across the corner of Northwest 11th Avenue and Overton Street.
The food fight is the culmination of what began as a silly conversation between Gage and Children’s Project staff a few months ago. Children’s Project, which offers art workshops for local hospitalized children and their families, has worked with Gage and his family throughout his battle with cancer.
