ADVERTISEMENTS

MUSIC

Linkin’ Continental

Heads up: What do you get when you link Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and John Wetton? The world’s largest continent of course, ASIA. Drawn from Yes, ELP, King Crimson and The Buggles, ASIA made bombastically over the top pop music as only progressive rockers who were actually from EUROPE could.

8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, Aladdin Theater, 3017 S.E. Milwaukie Ave., 503-234-9694, $45 (parents must accompany minors)

Intervision

The funky pop groove band plans to take a hiatus, but not before one last performance, joined by Journey cover band Wheels in the Sky.

8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, Jimmy Mak’s, 221 N.W. 10th Ave., 503-295-6542, $15

PARTY

The Bite

The 27th annual event will take over Waterfront Park with smells and tastes and plenty of frivolity. New elements are the Oregon Dessert Pavilion, Portland Food Cart Cuisine and Gerry Frank’s Oregon’s Chef’s Table.

11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6 and Saturday, Aug. 7, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, Waterfront Park, www.biteoforegon.com, $10 weekend pass, $8 daily admission

STAGE

“South Pacific”

The new production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical won seven 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, and arrives in Portland as part of the Fred Meyer Broadway Across America series from its sold-out run at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York City. It’s the tale of two couples on a tropical island during World War II, and their romance and happiness threatened by war and their own prejudices. The score includes “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Younger than Springtime,” “Bali Ha’i,” “There is Nothin’ Like A Dame” and “A Wonderful Guy.”

7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, Aug. 3-6, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, Keller Auditorium, 222 S.W. Clay St., 503-241-1802, starting at $23.50
